Infotainment, advertising and way-finding are only a few of the varied uses of digital signage. As DOOH media is becoming more popular in Asia and around the world, we are seeing increasingly creative applications… like this digital signage war memorial installed in a cemetery at a Veteran’s Day ceremony in the US.
The Fallen Heroes memorial is a simple but effective concept. A 46-inchtouch screen display is used to depict the lives of over 6,600 soldiers who died during conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The content deals sensitively with people’s memories of their loved ones. The soldiers’ families were invited to submit their favourite photographs of holidays, birthdays and family events, to reveal the personal side of each fallen hero.
Set into the black granite memorial, the digital touch-screen uses a hi-bright LCD screen in order to provide brighter, clearer images during the day. The digital software used for the memorial allows visitors to interact with the screen. They are able to select a soldier by name, branch of service and date of death. The software and screen then let people browse information and photographs.
This touching use of digital signage technology creates a wonderful way for families and the community to pay their respects to the soldiers who lost their lives in service of their country.
