Signbox Microsystems Pte Ltd, a leading Asian digital signage solution provider based in Singapore, today announced that it had selected Amazon Web Services to host its popular Signbox.tv cloud-hosted digital signage platform.

Cloud-hosting allows for digital signage server software to be offered as software-as-a-service or SaaS where the customer pays only for what they use.  Customers effectively rent the server software and hardware, rather than having to buy and maintain these themselves, making the costs lower, and more importantly, variable, rather than fixed. SaaS digital signage solutions can be offered on a monthly basis at a low variable rate.

Digital signage and digital-out-of-home (DOOH) media are becoming increasingly important to how businesses communicate with their customers.  According to study quoted by Intel, more people watch video on digital signs than on the internet or Facebook.  According to the Arbitron study, in the US, over two thirds of adults and teens have seen a digital video display in a public venue in the past month.

“Until now we have been self hosting our own digital signage server platform on which we offered a cloud-based digital signage solutions to our customers.  Singapore’s superior fibre broadband network and regular power supply allowed us to offer extremely high-speed and reliable connections –but our growth has simply outstripped our internal infrastructure,” said Stuart Lakin, Director, Business Development for Signbox Microsystems.

“We evaluated a number of different infrastructure providers, but decided that Amazon Web Services offered the most scalability, flexibility and stability –all factors which are important to our digital signage customers which include banks, retailers, cinemas and other hightly demanding industries,” said Francis Regan, Senior Software Engineer for Signbox.

“Our cloud-based digital signage solution called Signbox.tv allows customers to simply install the Signbox signPlayer softare on any PC connected to the internet.  The player can then be remotely updated with any kind of content and managed remotely from anywhere in the world, provided they have an internet connection and any web browser,” continued Lakin.
